The International Women’s Club of Paris celebrated its 20th anniversary in March 2016 and invited a representative of the BIWC to join their celebrations. Since our International Coordinators were not able to attend, the President of the BIWC was warmly received in Paris as the sole representative of our Club.
The BIWC had already had contacts with Le WIC de Paris. In April 2012 seventeen members of the Paris club visited us for five days, and in April 2013 fifteen members of our Club visited Paris.
The celebrations started with a reception and a Grand Gala Dinner at the Salon des Arts et Métiers on the Saturday evening. It was a very elegant event with evening attire and dancing until midnight, attended by about 100 members and guests. On the following day, a cultural programme was offered to those who were interested, namely a visit to Malmaison Castle where Napoléon had once lived with his first wife Josephine Beauharnais. In the evening, there was a potluck dinner at the home of the Paris International Coordinator. On Monday, the monthly meeting of the Paris club took place in the Hotel Marriott Rive Gauche. It started with a Meet and Greet, followed by a lecture by the cultural attaché and a tourism officer of the Slovenian Embassy. During the meeting, the BIWC’s President was asked to say a few words about our Club. After the official meeting one could attend a lunch and continue conversations with members of different clubs, among them three ladies from the IWC of Malta. This event was a good occasion to renew old friendships and establish new contacts, and to make our Club better known.
