First of all, I want to thank you, dear ladies, for your votes and your trust in me.
BIWC is a very special club for me. In 2003, our young family, with three children, came back to Berlin from our four-year posting in Tanzania. I didn’t have any friends in Berlin; the city was new to me too. We had a house in Kleinmachnow and with three small children, and preg- nant with a fourth, I didn’t have much chance to be actively integrating myself into social life in Berlin.
I don’t remember how I first heard about BIWC, but I soon became a member; I started participating in different events and got in touch with several ladies, who became my dear friends for so many years!
The President of the Club at that time was Ruby Ma. She asked me to become the Charity Coordinator – and I agreed. For the following nine months (the whole of my pregnancy 🙂 ) we were preparing for the very successful 7th International Charity Fest. With 18 ladies on the board, 25 national stands, a fantastic programme and tombola prizes, it was such an experience for me! I gained new skills and made so many beautiful friends! Above all, we raised €21,000 for the Charity Kinderhospiz Sonnenhof Björn-Schulz-Stiftung.
Since leaving Berlin in 2006, I have been a member of many different International Clubs around the globe. From 2007-2009, I was Vice President and from 2009-2011
I was the President at the International Expatriates Organization in Colombo, Sri Lanka. I was the Charity Coordinator at Ottawa International Women’s Club, and an active member at THIS Club in Washington DC.
After the loss of my husband in 2019, I returned to Berlin. Throughout all these years abroad I have still been in close contact with my dear friends from the BIWC, and there was no doubt at all that I wanted to give back as much I can to this wonderful Club.
My special thanks go to Carol Marquardt and the EC members, who made my transition as incoming President as smooth as possible!
On 14 July, we had our first EC meeting and I am very pleased to inform you that the board voted and welcomed our new Public Relations Coordinator, Karolina Stefanski.
Our board is now complete and I am very proud to be a part of this team! We are hoping that from now on we will have mostly in-person events and activities. We are currently concentrating on how to recruit new active members and will try to offer even more activities.
Dear ladies, I am so looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible in the near future. I also look forward to receiving any suggestions, feedback, and/or comments from you. My email is: email@example.com.
I wish you a very sunny, happy, peaceful and healthy August!
