EC Letter October Newsletter

Dear members,

Time flies, and the celebration of the 25th anniversary of our Club is approaching fast. I would like to encourage you to attend the gala dinner at Hotel Steglitz International Berlin on Friday, the 27th of October.

We will have a small but exquisite cultural program: Two musicians among our members have volunteered to entertain us. Swedish member Karin Lovelius will take time off from the Leipzig Opera to sing songs from several different countries, accompanied by our German member Lieselotte Jarvis on the piano. To further reflect the cultural diversity of our Club, a Thai dance group will also perform later in the evening. After dinner a DJ will provide the music of your choice.

Since we have strengthened our international contacts with our partner clubs in Europe by inviting them to Berlin or visiting them during the last years, the presidents and/or their deputies of the women’s clubs in Paris, Stockholm and The Hague will participate in the celebration of our 25th anniversary. The International Coordinators and the Executive Committee will welcome our visitors and provide them with a small program highlighting our wonderful city.

We have also invited all our former presidents, and most of them have agreed to come and join us for this unique event. It will be a special pleasure to listen to the welcome address by one of our founding presidents, Debra Engler, who is coming from Switzerland. Former BIWC presidents Ann Ourmazd and Alice Kern will come from the USA, the other former presidents from Berlin. It will be a happy reunion with old friends, the long-time members of the club and an occasion for the newer club members to meet these pioneers.

To refresh the memory of our long-time members and to give our younger members an idea of how the BIWC was founded and how it developed, the history committee has worked very hard on a brochure on the history of the BIWC, which will be launched during the anniversary party and distributed to the participants.

On the occasion of our 25th anniversary we would like to ask for donations for one our club’s charity projects, the Hestia “Frauenhaus”. From the very beginning our club has supported this women’s shelter which helps women and children in distress. There will be an opportunity for you to donate at the entrance during registration.

I hope you will come and join us in this celebration.
