Beautiful blue skies set the stage for our welcome to our Maltese visitors. The Monkey Bar provided an entertaining meeting point, as orangutans could really be seen swinging in the trees below as we sipped our cocktails! A superb sunset over supper at the Neni Restaurant got our week together off to a good start.
Our day trip to Schloss Charlottenburg, the summer residence of Sophie Charlotte, began with a boat trip on the Spree. After a light lunch at the Kleine Orangerie and a stroll through the gardens, we took an audioguide tour of the palace. The interior design reflects several architectural styles: the old palace, with its magnificent baroque state rooms and the famous porcelain cabinet, and the new wing built by Frederick the Great in 1742. Our excellent evening meal was followed by a concert of The Berliner Residenz Orchester in costumes recalling life at the Prussian court.
Thanks to member Bridget, our day trip to Potsdam on Thursday was guided professionally with the sun illuminating the palace and gardens of Sanssouci. Member Jacqueline graciously hosted a potluck dinner for 20 in her beautiful home that evening. The food contributions were generous and delicious and thanks go to everyone who made it such a success.
On Friday, a Berlin City walking tour was followed by dinner at the Reichstag. We finished as we had started with an excellent meal followed by a glorious sunset!
Thank you to everyone who contributed in any way to make this a memorable visit.
